I needed one more item to kick my latest Dennis Kirk order into free shipping territory, so I decided to try some Blue-Away on the heavy blueing I got while mucking up the low-speed air screw (that's all taken care of now).

It does a pretty good job of removing the discoloration-- mine was pretty heavy and it got most of it off. Downside is that it's abrasive and will haze the chrome. The hazing wasn't too bad on the head pipe, but the cheap plating on the Supertrapp didn't fare as well. The mfr. recommends finishing with Simichrome (which they also make). The Turtle Wax chrome polish I had on hand didn't do much for the hazing, especially on the 'trapp. I may try some Simichrome later (can anybody comment on it?).

So yesterday after work I'm on the bike, out running some errands. I stood up slightly on the pegs to absorb an upcoming jolt at a road work site-- and when I hit the bump, the right footpeg BROKE OFF. It had been bent upward when the previous owner crashed the bike, and I had managed to straighten it some, but obviously the metal didn't care for all that stress. Luckily the Harley shop in the neighboring town (where I had to go for a rehearsal anyway) stays open 'til 7PM, so I was able to get some HD replacements which work fine (except for having to drill the hole out slightly to accomodate the metric screw).

Got my hitch and trailer yesterday; trailering the bike to Asheville, NC (about an hour away) this weekend for a town festival, camping, and a ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway. (I'm not hardcore enough yet to do a camping trip just on the bike...) Then I'll be trailering it to Virginia next week, taking my kids and my mom for a visit with my sister and brother-in-law. Got the Splitfire plug, but I'm not sure if I feel like pulling the tank again before the mountain run-- we'll see.

It's always somethin', ain't it?

KTRSD,

John
